I was in a conversation which included a civilian peace activist recently. And once again I heard the comment about the 'guy who joins the military because they are poor and have no options'. Which is supposed to give them a moral pass from people in the peace movement that feel that everyone in the military's primary purpose is to kill other human beings.
Now, keep in mind that yes, I know what an economic draft is and understand it exists. And yes I understand that the military's functions include the killing of human beings.
Setting those aside, how would you feel if someone said to you, "...and those guys who couldn't get a job anywhere else ended up signing up as peace activists..."
Mostly, its an ignorant viewpoint, as in uninformed. People sign up for all kinds of reasons, just like activists of which I've met a couple who just wanted to be 'against something'. They were in the minority thankfully, but they are out there.
Something to talk about anyway.

t’s so nice site. We love to see more on this site. Keep on updating… MonkAreYou Bali *hggdgd
You are a riot! Makes me think about the people that cruise past a Peace Protest and yell out their windows "Get a Job!". Now I have something to yell back..."I tried...these are the only people that would have me!"
Your friend
Army Mom- I knew you would get it
:)
The last protest my husband and I attended at the Nichols Fountain in KC, we stood along 47th Street and when those assholes (in SUVs with JoCo tags - go figure) flipped us off or gave us the thumbs down, we came to attention and saluted. A couple of them were actually set back on their heels and shamed by that - but not nearly enough.
"we came to attention and saluted"
Nice. I like that.
I get that alot...that people don't know quite what to do when confronted with some of those same troops they are supposed to be supporting who have an opposing viewpoint.
It's almost a "I support your service...but you suck!" moment. Either that or sometimes they just look very confused...
